DEVISE Documentation
Overview
DEVISE is a tool built to summarize gridded weather and phenology data for spatial layers in the intermountain western USA.
It calculates the average weather or phenology variable (e.g., temperature, precipitation, snow depth) for each time period — annual, monthly, or daily — across a selected spatial layer (like a hunt unit or national park), and displays the results in a graph.
Because some datasets include overlapping variables (e.g., both Daymet and SNODAS provide snow depth), we organize the data into four broad categories:
- Phenology
- Precipitation
- Snow
- Temperature
How You Can Use DEVISE
There are three main ways to use DEVISE:
- Use pre-loaded spatial layers (e.g., national parks, hunt areas) to review data from an area of interest
- Select a point on the map to review data from that location

Dataset context & Variable Summaries
DEVISE currently includes four key datasets from national or federated sources. See the links below for a summary of each dataset, the variables included, derivations, and sources.
